Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1Nairobi - Samburu National Reserve

Leave Nairobi in the morning and drive past Kenya's Central Highlands and past the equator to Samburu Game Reserve arriving in time for lunch followed by a short rest before you depart for an afternoon game viewing and return back to the camp before sunset. Dinner and overnight. Samburu National Reserve is characterized by vast, open landscapes, dried riverbeds (depending on the season of the year) and red volcanic soil and cut by the Ewaso Nyiro (‘River of brown water’ in Samburu language) the river that gives life to the reserve.

Day 2Full day in Samburu National Reserve

After breakfast, spend a full day in Samburu National Reserve or go out on early morning and afternoon game drives in the reserve, which covers 40 square miles (104 square kilometers). Ololokwe Table Mountain forms a dramatic backdrop to our game viewing. Samburu is renowned for its rare species of fauna known as the ‘Samburu five’. These five animals are usually only found north of the equator: the Grevy's zebra, the reticulated giraffe with its liver-coloured patches outlined by narrow white lines, the Somali ostrich, the Beisa oryx and the long-necked gerenuk.

Day 3Samburu - Sweetwaters/Ol Pejeta Conservancy

After breakfast we check out of the camp and drive to Sweetwaters/Ol Pejeta Conservancy situated between the foot hills of the Aberdares and the Mount Kenya. Arrive at the camp in time for lunch and short rest. Afternoon game viewing with a visit to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only one of its kind in Kenya. The Chimpanzee sanctuary is home to orphaned chimpanzees from the Jane Goodall Institute in Burundi. A walk around the sanctuary will give you an opportunity to spot the orphaned chimps. Dinner and overnight at the Sweetwaters Serena Tented Camp.

Day 4Sweetwaters - Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast check-out of the Sweetwaters Serena Tented Camp and drive to Lake Nakuru National Park - a park famous for its flamingo population, Rhino Sanctuary (both black and white rhinos), the endangered Rothschild Giraffe and other wild animals including leopards, lions, buffaloes, zebras and impalas. Lunch and a short rest will be followed by afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight.

Day 5Lake Nakuru - Lake Naivasha

After breakfast enjoy morning game drive then depart for Naivasha - home to the highest of the Great Rift Valley lakes and the second largest freshwater lake in Kenya - Lake Naivasha. After lunch spend the afternoon at leisure. Optional activities include nature walk, biking, bird walk along the shore of the lake, visit to Crescent Island, boat trips in the lake or enjoy game viewing while riding bicycles in Hell’s Gate National Park.

Day 6Lake Naivasha - Nairobi

After breakfast drive back to Nairobi arriving in the afternoon.
